About Kyocera Wireless in Australia
Kyocera Wireless Corp., dating back to its days as Qualcomm's consumer handset division, was the first manufacturer to provide CDMA handsets to Australia when Telstra launched its Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network approximately seven years ago. Today, Kyocera looks forward to continuing this long-standing relationship as Telstra migrates its CDMA network to a similar new code-division 3G technology called UMTS.

The CDMA network will continue to operate through approximately 2008. During this time, Kyocera will continue to provide CDMA products and services to Telstra customers and the Australian market, where Kyocera phones have earned CDMA Phone of the Year honours from leading trade publication Mobility Magazine for two of the past three years.

For proprietary/competitive reasons, Kyocera has not announced its plans regarding future UMTS handsets. However, it is important to note that UMTS is a code-based technology very closely aligned to CDMA - Kyocera's core expertise. Still employing a number of the engineers who designed the first commercial CDMA phones back in 1995, Kyocera has a breadth of expertise that should position the company well to continue its strong presence and growth in Australia for years to come. Telstra remains a key, valued customer and Kyocera Wireless has no plans to relinquish its role as one of Telstra's trusted handset partners.
