KYOCERA TO HOLD EARTH EXPO AT SAN DIEGO'S LARGEST SOLAR GROVE FOR 2013 EARTH DAY

Friday, April 19, 11 am – 2 pm Event at 8611 Balboa Ave

Includes Almost 40 Vendors, Demonstrations, and eWaste Collection Program to Benefit Cell Phones for Soldiers

Kyocera, San Diego's most-awarded company for environmental efforts with 18 Director's Recycling Awards, is holding an Earth Expo at San Diego's largest Solar Grove™. Featuring almost 40 environmental vendors demonstrating the latest earth-friendly products and services, Kyocera's Earth Expo is free to the public in celebration of 2013 Earth Day. Located at Kyocera International's headquarters, the 25 Solar Trees™ fuse function, aesthetics and sustainability, providing shade for 186 cars while drawing approximately 421,000 kWh of power production from San Diego's abundant sunshine each year.

Key demonstrations include a live bee hive; small animals, zoo educator and "Dr. Zoo Little" from San Diego Zoo; solar energy solutions; tips for sustainability and more ways to help Mother Earth in our everyday lives. Kyocera will continue its eWaste Education & Reduction Campaign beginning April 1-April 22 (Earth Day) benefitting Cell Phones for Soldiers. Mobile devices will be donated to the non-profit, which will then use the recycling profits to give calling cards to the men and women serving our country. Collection sites for old, obsolete or discarded mobile phones will be set up at various locations throughout the city and at the Earth Expo. Additionally, attendees at the Kyocera Earth Expo can bring any personal electronic device – cell phones, music players, cameras, accessories, etc. – to be properly disposed of or recycled for someone else to use.

eWaste Recycling
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that only 20% of cell phones in the United States are recycled. Today there are nearly as many wireless subscribers as there are people in our country, and the average person gets a new phone every 18 months. All of this adds up to more than 100 million cell phones contributing more than 50,000 tons to landfills annually. eWaste creates potential environmental exposure to toxins with improper disposal, but an easy solution: recycling.
