Systems Engineer, Sr. Staff (San Diego, CA)

SUMMARY

The Systems Engineering team works to represent Kyocera's technology offering to its customers. The team is responsible for managing customer requirements, managing technology as it relates to understanding standards, analyzing customer needs, elicit customer feedback, and generating documentation. A significant amount of customer interface will be required to conduct meetings and scope a strategy for features and feature content. Role will be responsible for defining high-level use cases of applications, performing product compliance negotiation with customers, and supporting Product Leads toward meeting product launch milestones. The systems engineer has ownership for technical features related customer communications. A systems engineer would also evaluate the performance of handsets, applications, and services on each customer network and is also responsible for documenting the use of the company's intellectual property. Having broad expertise, or unique knowledge, uses skills to contribute to development of company objectives and principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective ways.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor degree in engineering or equivalent experience, Master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years related software or systems engineering experience with wireless emphasis; and/or experience in software development environment
  • Experience on embedded systems development and integration of software and hardware
  • Detailed understanding of chipsets and capabilities
  • Good working knowledge of the industry wireless telecommunications standards and features
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas required: radio access technologies, mobile multimedia, messaging, IMS & streaming services
  • Strong knowledge of Hardware & Software Integration, and ability to apply to use cases
  • Experience with system modeling, utilizing DOORS or other tools for requirements maintenance
  • Work experience with programming languages C, C++, Java, PERL a plus
  • Work experience with embedded OS such as Brew, Android, or other platforms
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a team environment 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Aligning software technology projects to future handset releases
  • Work cross-functionally with internal groups (including Product Planning) to incorporate customer expectations in the front-end definition and analysis of requirements and architecture for features supporting a wide range of product tiers and customers
  • Understanding customer requirements and design market-focused solutions
  • Communicate risks to product development teams
  • Identify critical areas and define performance metrics
  • Ability to write systems requirements, use cases, and design documents
  • Ability to analyze requirements, synthesize and architect mobile phone systems
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles
  • Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups
